Pastor: Michael Burt
Father Michael Burt, was born in Petoskey, Michigan the son of the late Anne and Edward Burt. He has one sister, Catherine Richter, and had one brother, David, who passed away in July 2008. St Mary-St Paul Parish, Big Rapids is his home parish. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from George Washington University in May 1993, while serving in the U.S. Navy. He served 22 years in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and retired with an honorable discharge in October 1996. He completed his formation and studies at St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary, in Mundelein, IL and received a Master of Divinity degree in May 2009. He was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Rev. Walter A. Hurley, eleventh bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids, on June 6, 2009 at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Grand Rapids. Following his ordination, Father Burt was appointed parochial vicar of St. Michael Parish in Remus. In 2010 Father Burt was appointed and installed as pastor by the Most Rev. Walther A. Hurley and served as pastor at St Michael Parish in Remus until June 30, 2013. He began his current assignment at St Mary-St Paul Parish, Big Rapids July 1, 2013. July 21, 2013 the Most Rev. David J. Walkowiak, twelfth bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids came to Big Rapids and installed him as pastor at St Mary-St Paul Parish, Big Rapids.
Parochial Vicar: Douglas Braun
Father Douglas Braun, a Metro-Detroit native joined the Pastoral staff at St. Mary-St. Paul in July 2016. Fr. Braun is a graduate of Wayne State University where he received his BA degree in classical studies. Father Braun’s vocation to the priesthood began many years ago when he entered the seminary at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. After 4 years in the seminary he took leave to pursue other interests in the religious life, only to return to the Mundelein Seminary in 2012 to complete his journey into the Priesthood, being ordained in June of 2015. Fr. Braun served as a Deacon at St. Stephen Parish in East Grand Rapids before being reassigned to St. Mary-St. Paul. He is an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings and also enjoys classical music, and sometimes heard playing the clarinet.
