Newman Center “Chili”THON Scheduled

Ever watch a cooking competition on T.V.? There are chefs battling it out to produce the most delicious meal in a given amount of time. A set of judges then snobbishly critiques the meal and chooses the winner. All the while, there is high stress, creative thinking, and pure entertainment.

Due to Covid 19 regulations, the annual chili cook-off which has traditionally taken place in the Parish Center is going virtual this year. We are recreating a cooking competition. The competitors are the winners of the past three Newman chili cook-offs: Pete Kailing, Mary Greene, and myself. These past winners will be paired with a Ferris student and the team will have to create and plate the best Chili in 1hr 40mins.

There will also be special student guests to provide entertainment, and to give live interviews so that you can learn more about the St Paul Newman Center at Ferris State, what we do, and our mission.

The Chilithon will be livestreamed through YouTube and Facebook so you can simply enjoy the entertainment from the safety and comfort of your own home! If, however, you want a more close up and personal experience, you can purchase “VIP Tickets.” The tickets give you entry to watch the competition in person and include wine, hor d’oeuvres, and chili tasting for two persons. Only five of these tickets are available.

During the Chilithon, there will be the opportunity to make an online donation to the Newman Center. Live Streaming widens our audience, allowing many people outside our church community to learn a little bit more about the St Paul Newman Center and contribute to its mission. Given the larger audience, we hope to raise $8000!

Stay tuned for more information and the url link in order to watch the Chilithon. The link will be provided at a later date through the bulletin, the parish website, and also on my personal facebook page.  If you have any questions please email me at
